Early Fremont History

Formation of Fremont twp in 1873 when Moody County was organized. (The year of the massive German-Russian immigration, Advent of Railroads in South Dakota). Fremont history is tightly weaved into that of Medary, which became the county seat of Midway County in 1857—so before Moody County, we were probably part of Midway or Minnehaha County. The population of Fremont twp in 1900 was 400—do you think our present population is more or less than this?

Internet Challenges in Fremont Twp

This winter has been especially vicious and often stranding many of us at home with no 2-way communication but a cell phone, rarely a landline and internet access, which for some residents, in the southern part of Fremont twp has been sketchy at best and many residents have NO CHOICE except the Cell towers which have caps on usage, very costly for the higher speeds and satellite which has the same limitations.

We hope in this blog, aside from other neighborly issues and helps, to address situations specific to our Township and Internet--which may cross county and Township lines.  We will often reference another Blog on SD Rural Internet at https://sdruralbroadband.blogspot.com/

We hope that you will be free with comments or even page posts on your experience with various providers and we hope to get your input on the speeds you get, your satisfaction with what you have and do you have any other choices in the same monthly cost and speed (or better)?
